Specially
designed and developed in conjunction with Pipercross exclusively for the
Ecotek CB-26P.
It is now made in anodised Gold to match the CB-26P and Red and Blue units are available as a matching combination. See the
FAQ's page for more details on dealing with the resonance noise from the Ecotek
device - click here to go to the section.
Opening the post this morning, I had a surprise
package - a filter from Ecotek. They've got together with filtration wizards
Pipercross to create this - the Ecotek filter/ silencer. All you have to do is
slide it over the widget, and squeeze the re-usable clamp up - job jobbed. But
does it work? Since we fitted it to Paul's Pug, he's not heard a squeak - the
silencer has silenced. And - added bonus - it looks cool." REVS Magazine
Issue
49. August 2000. When fitting the Filter/Silencer do remember to make sure the 'T' piece is good and tight to the gold body of the CB-26P so as the extra weight of the Filter does not unscrew the device under vibration - a 19mm spanner will do the job. Tests show that the device performs perfectly with the Filter/Silencer in place and there is no diminution of the benefits of the Ecotek CB-26P. Increasingly the Ecotek is being used on more modern and more sophisticated cars with quieter engines and the demand for a suitable silencing device was considerable. Remember also that the device makes less noise as it beds in, so after 1-2000 miles a device with the filter fitted should be completely silent.
Given that a substantial element of the turbulence created by the Ecotek device is caused by resonance the entire device would have to be encased in foam to make it completely silent this is both impractical and expensive. Accordingly, the existing Pipercross device is considered to be the best compromise. With a new unit, on some cars, the noise can still be rather harsh. You will be pleased to learn however that the noise will get less as the device beds in and after a while it will reach a level where the Pipercross unit will have sufficient effect to silence the CB-26P completely. This is because there are actually two noises one is resonance in the Ecotek unit which reduces as it beds in, the other is induction roar which is dealt with by the Filter/Silencer unit. There is a video of a fitted device and Pipercross Filter, with a sound-track of the noise heard above an engine fitted with an induction kit - click here to view. Filtration on the device without the Pipercross unit (the gauze on the CB-26P) is 250 Microns. The Pipercross filters at 60 Microns making the device virtually maintenance free. The Pipercros filter can be cleaned with domestic washing up liquid but shouldn't need cleaning for 20,000 miles. In dusty and polluted environments it is highly recommended - alternative crankcase filters are not suitable as they filter at 500 microns.
The price is £16.95 plus vat and £1.60 post and packing. (Total £21.80 inclusive). It is available singly or together with an Ecotek CB-26P. Red and Blue matching units are only available as a complete pair (referred as a 'Combo'). The Filter/Silencer simply slides over the body of the Ecotek device and is secured by the supplied nylon ratchet.
