When applying PowerBoost please read
the instructions carefully to be sure of getting the very best results. This 600
ml can provides a full first time treatment for engines with over 20,000 miles
(see 5 below) or two treatments for new or previously treated cars after 12,000
miles (see 6 below).
This may well be one of the most effective maintenance operations you undertake
on your engine so make sure you apply the PowerBoost in precisely the correct
manner.
INSTRUCTIONS
The PowerBoost foam is applied to the air intake of an engine running at between
2,500 and 3,000 revs so the procedure requires two people one to maintain
engine revs and one to apply the foam.
1.
Read the instruction leaflet contained in
the PowerBoost cap to establish where
to inject the PowerBoost foam.
a) For
carburettor cars remove the air filter housing
and inject PowerBoost straight into the carburettor. If this is not possible
remove just the air filter and inject into the air intake.
b) For
petrol injected* cars PowerBoost must be injected downstream of the Air
Mass Meter. See below for details*. If you are in any doubt consult a
professional mechanic.
2. Warm up the engine to operating temperature.
3. Shake can and align the nozzle with the black dot
this ensures that when
the can is tipped the foam still flows at the correct rate and exhausts the can
fully. Try to keep the can as upright as possible (see 4. below). If you do not do this there will be a residue left in the can.
4. Insert the extension tube this is often necessary to keep
the can as upright as possible or when inserting foam in an awkward position. Two tubes are
provided in case of loss or damage or for two 12,000 mile applications. The tube
affects the time taken to exhaust the can and should always be used.
NOTE: A number of EFi
engines may not run with the inlet ducting dismantled - slide the tubing
supplied with the product into the ducting (downstream of the AMM), re-assemble
and lightly re- tighten ducting before application.
5. In the case of a first time application untreated engines of over 20,000
miles:
a) Apply foam into air intake or manifold with the engine
running at a steady 2,500 - 3,000 rpm (2,000 - 2500 for Diesels) for 2 (two) minutes.
b) Leave engine idling for 3 (three) minutes then repeat a) above.
c) Repeat a) and b) until foam is exhausted minimum 8 minutes treatment per
can.
d) Drive the vehicle for ten minutes using, safely and where possible,
the full rev range through the gears to complete the decoking process.
6. Subsequent treatments (per 12,000 miles):
a) In the case of pre-treated cars and those that have
completed 12,000 miles follow 5a) and 5b) above twice a total foam application
of 4 (four) minutes and then 5d).

*Important note for EFI cars
With Electronic Petrol Injected (EFI) cars the chemicals in
PowerBoost can affect the sensors in the Air Mass Meters of Hot Wire
Electronic Petrol Injection systems. As a general rule therefore always apply
the PowerBoost Foam downstream (engine side) of the Air Mass Meter (AMM).
Here are some illustrated examples showing the Air Mass Meter circled (they are
also reproduced in the instruction leaflet contained in the lid of every can of
PowerBoost); The AMM is
invariably next to the air box containing the air filter. The airflow is from
this box, across the air mass meter and towards the throttle body.
You
can undo any of the clips that hold the flexible pipe of the induction system
downstream of the air-box and apply the foam into this pipe quite easily while
the engine is running see instructions.
Locating the Air Mass meter is quite straightforward as can be seen from
these illustrations; it is the first electronic sensor next to the air-box and
can be identified by the electrical wires coming out of it and leading to the
ECU. Simply apply the foam near the engine and away from the AMM.

In the case of Turbo or Supercharged engines apply directly into the charger
wherever possible. This is normally accomplished by undoing the air ducting to
the charger.
If an Ecotek CB-26P device is fitted this can also be used a point to inject
the PowerBoost foam by undoing the cap and removing the valve from the unit.
